Last week, I headed out to a new piece of Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway for a walk with Alex Hoeft from One Truckee River. We started in a parking area near Fleish Dam & Bridge, and walked up past Puny Dip Creek — a goofy name, but a pretty spot. The whole walk was only about a mile out and a mile back, with great river views.
It was a quiet Sunday afternoon and we didn’t see much wildlife, but we did see a flock of California quail up in the hills, and an American dipper and some Mallards down in the river channel.
Portions of the Puny Dip Creek to Crystal Peak Park segment of bikeway were closed for some time due to construction, but as of November 29, the entire road from Crystal Peak Park to Puny Dip Creek has been re-opened (see map here) — more than six miles of beautiful river trail. The trail stops before reaching Farad, but according to the Tahoe Pyramid Bikeway website, the missing segment will be connected in 2016.

Thank you for that little peek into a beautiful part of Northern Nevada. I love that ol’ river, and I miss Reno.
